F. Michael Gloth, III, MD, FACP, AGSF, CMD
Dr. Michael Gloth is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and also holds dual appointments as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine and of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the University of Maryland. He serves as the Corporate Medical Director and Senior Vice-President of Medical Affairs for Mid-Atlantic Health Care, LLC. Dr. Gloth is the former Director of Geriatrics Ambulatory Services at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes. Dr. Gloth, a Baltimore native, received his B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and his M.D. from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Union Memorial Hospital in 1987 and a 3-year Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1990. After working as a full-time faculty member there until 1993, he left to Chair the Division of Geriatrics at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore where he also developed and ran their Fellowship Program in Geriatrics. Subsequently, he ran a successful practice in Geriatrics Medicine as President of Victory Springs Senior Health Associates. Dr. Gloth, a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and the American Geriatrics Society, served on the Advisory Committee to the White House Conference on Aging, the National Advisory Council on Aging to NIH and on national guideline panels for pain relief, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and for revision of the Beers Criteria on drugs to be avoided in older adults. He also represents the American College of Physicians on the Interspecialty Medical Council for the National Osteoporosis Foundation. Locally, he has served as President of the Baltimore City Medical Society and the Hospice Network of Maryland and as the first Geriatrician on the Maryland Board of Physicians. His publications are extensive, including medical informatics and his newest release Fit at Fifty and Beyond, a “smarter” book on dieting, nutrition, and exercise based on age-related changes. Dr. Gloth is a Certified Medical Director with over 2 decades of Long-term Care oversight. In 2006, he was named Clinician of the Year by the American Geriatrics Society.
